From Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel. Here is a still shot taken from the footage of the one-second strike of a Great White Shark as it pounces on a seal, slowed down forty times.
It was pretty amazing to see.
Other highlights of the show: baby polar bears emerging from their winter slumber, birds of paradise doing their mating dances (she ... isn't interested) and baboons prancing through the water like little gay men (not that there's anything wrong with gay prancing men)

corn nuts vs chip nuts

Corn Nuts are super-crunchy giant corn kernels toasted and seasoned to perfection. They come in several different flavours and can be bought in bulk or packaged at numerous locations. They even have their own website.

Chip Nuts are cocktail peanuts in a crispy potato shell. They also come in several different flavours but are much harder to find. I know of only one place in the Niagara Region to purchase this tasty treat.

Lately, I have been obsessed with Corn Nuts. I rather enjoy the barbeque flavour which can be found at the Bulk Barn. Also, I do have a package of chip nuts (all dressed) and recently introduced some american friends to them. I think they were impressed with them, and how could you not be. They're peanuts covered with chips! Who is the genius who thought up that one.

So, in conclusion, I give round one in the battle of the bite size snacks to the Corn Nut.

he really did it this time (fauxhawkc)

and it was painfully glorious!

And now for some quotes about the hair from the Sanjaya fan boards

Sanjaya, we love you, but the hair was not a good idea. It detracted from your incredible sex appeal. If you make to the next round, please look at your great pictures and pick a hair style the compliments your beautiful face. Good Luck!

I think Sanjaya's hair was awsome tonight!!! He stuck it to all of the haters tonight!

I *LOVED* his hair tonight ya'll!!!
I think it really sets him apart and gave the shock factor he needs right now. He's getting noticed...he know's what he's doing.
AND...he just proved that the "Pretty Boy" look isn't the only thing keeping him on the show! He's more diverse than that!
I think he looked super hot. The spontaneity is a total turn on!!!
Sanjaya is tres sexy, yo!

wen he said "7 for good luck" i freaked cuz thats MY lucky number!!!

group finds toad the size of a small dog

DARWIN, Australia - An environmental group said Tuesday it had captured a "monster" toad the size of a small dog.

With a body the size of a football and weighing nearly 2 pounds, the toad is among the largest specimens ever captured in Australia, according to Frogwatch coordinator Graeme Sawyer.

"It's huge, to put it mildly," he said. "The biggest toads are usually females but this one was a rampant male ... I would hate to meet his big sister."

Frogwatch, which is dedicated to wiping out a toxic toad species that has killed countless Australian animals, picked up the 15-inch-long cane toad during a raid on a pond outside the northern city of Darwin late Monday.

Cane toads were imported from South America during the 1930s in a failed attempt to control beetles on Australia's northern sugar cane plantations. The poisonous toads have proven fatal to Australia's delicate ecosystems, killing millions of native animals from snakes to the small crocodiles that eat them.

"We kill them with carbon dioxide gas, stockpile them in a big freezer and then put them through a liquid fertilizer process" that renders the toads nontoxic, Sawyer said.

"It turns out to be sensational fertilizer," he added.

And In Other Related Animal News:

CHIANG MAI, Thailand - Chuang Chuang the panda has been spending his days in front of a big screen television watching panda porn.

Authorities at the Chiang Mai Zoo in northern Thailand hope the images will encourage him to mate with his partner, Lin Hui, and serve as an instructional lesson in how to do it right.

So far, it's been a tough sell, the zoo's chief veterinarian, Kanika Limtrakul, said Tuesday.

"Chuang Chuang seems indifferent to the videos; he has no reaction to what he's seeing on TV," Kanika said. "But, we're continuing to show him videos and hoping they will leave an impression."

spend the night in cinderella's castle

Disney World is currently celebrating its Year of a Million Dreams, and for many Disney fans, spending the night in Cinderella's Castle would be the ultimate dream come true.

While you can't pay money to stay in this amazing suite, you could be chosen. Each day throughout the 15-month celebration, one group of guests will be randomly selected from the theme parks to spend one night in the new guest suite high atop Cinderella's Castle, right in the middle of the Magic Kingdom.

How Do You Win?
Every morning, a Disney computer chooses a random time and location. For example, it could be the person passing through the 7th turnstile leading into Epcot at 11:51 AM. The location could be anywhere on Walt Disney World property.

What Exactly Do You Win?
The person (and their family) who wins is in for some serious VIP treatment, Disney style. First, they pack an overnight bag for the castle. hey are given some time to enjoy the suite before being called on to serve as grand marshals of the "Disney Dreams Come True" parade in the Magic Kingdom.
Later that night, the winners are treated to dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table, including an audience with Cinderella herself. After dinner, the winners enjoy VIP viewing of the SpectroMagic parade and the Wishes fireworks show.
After the Magic Kingdom closes, the winning family will have private access to the park for up to two hours. They'll have a VIP guide, and can participate in modified tours like "Keys to the Kingdom."
The wake-up call the next morning is from Cinderella herself.

What's the Castle Suite Like?
The castle suite, on the fourth floor of Cinderella's Castle in the middle of the Magic Kingdom, is decorated as a 17th-century chamber.
"Magic" mirrors in the suite (one in the bedroom, one in the parlor) double as flat-screen televisions. The suite has a fireplace with fireworks effects, and a parlor. The suite's bathroom has a garden bathtub, a shower and special amenities fit for royalty.

Some pictures of the suite:

All the windows in Cinderella's Castle suite are stained glass. This is partly because it fits with the theming (a guest suite in a castle), and partly for practical reasons. At night, the lights in the Magic Kingdom are turned up, and nightly maintenance is performed on the theme park as surfaces are scrubbed and repainted. In order to preserve the magic, the view from the windows is restricted to Fantasyland.

The suite is richly decorated, designed to call to mind a royal guest suite in a real castle. The main bedroom (shown above) has as fireplace; flanking the fireplace is a parlor and a bathroom. Stone floors and walls, along with hardwood paneling, stone columns and stained glass windows add to the feeling you are staying in a fairytale castle. The suite is furnished with a mix of antiques and reproductions. Highlights include a 17th century Dutch desk, two antique "slipper" chairs (used in the 17th and 18th century to sit on while putting on shoes), and support columns decorated with carved mice.

The faux fireplace in the bedroom has glowing logs and a fireworks effect in the back. The fireplace is a 600-pound limestone structure. It was cast from a 17th century, wooden Gothic original antique from France.

The bathroom in the Cinderella Suite has a sunken bathtub, separate shower and a toilet decked out like a throne.

The sunken bathtub is surrounded by stained glass murals depicting scenes from our host's fairy tale romance. Above, a dark blue ceiling serves as a backdrop for a twinkly night sky.
The bathtub itself is a Jacuzzi with a waterfall faucet. The mosaics were created from 30,000 hand-cut Italian smalti glass tiles.

the little mermaid on broadway

I'm very excited about this new broadway show, as The Little Mermaid is one of my most very favourite movies. Hopefully, it will find it's way to Toronto or Buffalo!

Based on one of the most beloved Disney films of all time and the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, The Little Mermaid is the sparkling new Disney musical that's poised to make a splash on Broadway. Some of Disney's most popular songs are featured in show - including "Part of Your World," "Kiss the Girl," and the Academy Award-winning Best Original Song, "Under the Sea" - by the songwriting team of 8-time Academy winner Alan Menken and the renowned Howard Ashman. The stage adaptation also features new songs by Menken and Glenn Slater, plus a book by Tony Award-winning playwright Doug Wright

i'm a fanjaya

to go along with my friend Chris' blog about the mystery of who is Ashley, the crying pre-teen fan on American Idol.

From tvtattle.com

"Idol's" mysterious crying girl revealed Her name is Ashley Ferl, a 13-year-old who actually is a fan of four "Idol" singers -- Sanjaya, Melinda, Gina and Jordin -- collectively. Ferl and her mom were at the CBS Television City complex -- "Idol's" home studio -- to attend a taping of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?," in addition to an "Idol" dress rehearsal. As the LA Times describes it, "The fates were kind, and the mother and daughter found their way to the 'Idol' rehearsal, where Ashley's waterworks began. Her prowess was quickly brought to the attention of 'Idol' producers who summoned the clan to a ringside seat of honor at the final taping."

In other related news, where do I get myself one of these awesome T-shirts?

your next american idol

Yes, that's right, it's Sanjaya Malakar! He can hula, he can't sing, he won't wipe that shit eating grin off of his face, and his hair. Oh the hair. Sanjaya Malakar makes me want to throw my TV at a baby. And how has he made it this far, you ask? I believe we can blame the real life tone deaf teenage fans that actually do think he's good, many of which can be found here. And also, we can equally blame those at votefortheworst who "support voting for the entertaining contestants who the producers would hate to see win on American Idol"
I encourage you to call in and vote for Sanjaya Malakar. I think we all deserve the pleasure of watching this train wreck.

spring!

Today is the first day of spring (at 8:07 pm) and I for one, could not be more excited! Although I have always been a fan of winter, this year I did not get to do most of the winter things that I enjoy. We tried to go skating but Mike lost his skates, we didn't get to the hills to toboggan, and regretfully, we never built a snowman. I did, however, get the classic ever loved snow face wash.
There are already signs of spring all around. The tulips have started to poke their heads out of the frozen ground and just yesterday, we spotted the first two robins of the year in our yard. I'm looking forward to seeing all the beautiful spring flowers in bloom and the animals emerging from their winter slumber.

test the nation on cbc

Who’s the smartest in your family? Where do Canada’s most clever people live? Who wins the IQ battle of the sexes? Join us at 8pm on March 18th to find out.

Mike and I had a lot of fun competing against one another last night. It was also a lot more nerve wracking than I thought it would be. I think the show was a great way for families to interact with one another, while also creating a healthy friendly rivalry. I won't say who won between Mike and I, but I am quite impressed with my score of 117.

no souvlaki for you

You know, it's true what they say, you really do learn something new everyday. Today, I learned that one of my co-workers is a souvlaki connoisseur. Now, you may wonder, at how many souvlaki establishments would one have to eat to become such an expert on the souvlaki? Apparently it's 2. And of the 2 that my co-worker (who shall remain nameless) has eaten at, he gives a glowing recommendation to eat at some souvlaki joint in London, Ontario. And when asked about his review of the souvlaki at Sambo's he has this to say "It's disgusting. Worst souvlaki I've ever eaten. I had pork but lamb is the best. Although the rice was good. But still disgusting"
I beg to differ, Mr. Souvlaki Nazi, and Sambo and I take offense to your comments. I think I speak for all the Sambo's regulars when I say you need to take your bad souvlaki review and go home.
NEXT.

i want to be a regular

It's been a dream of mine to become a regular at some type of establishment. I've always liked the thought of walking in to a place where everybody knows you. Just like Cheers.
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
And they're always glad you came;
You want to be where you can see,
Our troubles are all the same;
You want to be where everybody knows your name
I think I've found the establishment of choice for myself. It's a little place on Main Street, and I think I've known it was my chosen restaurant for a while now. Recently, in the past 3 weeks, I have visited this little diner around 6 times. And in fact, the last time my friend Yvonne and I went, the lady serving us asked us if we needed menu's and we said no thanks. Then she said, much to our amazement and joy, souvlaki's? And we nodded, faces beaming.
Better yet, just the other day, I got a friendly wave in the 7-11 parking lot from a different waitress.
Yes, I think I am well on my way to becoming a regular. I'd like to become the "Norm" of Sambo's, although I think my personality may lend itself to me being more of a "Cliff" with his little tidbits of unwanted facts.
God bless you, whoever you are, "Sambo". I have a sneaking suspicion that you and I will be lifelong pals.

my first blog? or post?

I have a good friend who is a blogger. Every morning I find myself checking her blog for her witty ramblings, it's a fantastic way to start the morning. Recently, she mentioned that she just doesn't have the blogging drive so much anymore. I'd like to hope that it's just a passing thought, I mean, could she really walk away from all her loyal readers like that? I don't think she has it in her.
A couple of people have told me that I should blog myself, so here I go, I'm going to give it a whirl. Will I be any good at it? Only time will tell. Hopefully, I'll keep you at least mildly entertained. I'd like to think I've learned from one of the best.
On the other hand, if you think I'm pOOp, let me know. A little constructive criticism never hurt anyone .. although it may make me like you a little less. Not gonna lie.
